One of the Art Deco Series, the Auburn,is so called in reference to the automobile company of the same name. I chose it because the 1934 Boat Tail Auburn perfectly captures the spirit of the,” Between the Wars “era.
The top of the guitar is painted with a radiating scalloped pattern that continues on the rim of the body.
A Charlie Christian Pickup is installed in the top of the guitar. It is the earliest pickup Gibson used and is true to the Art Deco Period.
The back is a 200 piece marquetry of exotic veneers and aluminum. It depicts an Auburn cruising the coast with a pretty girl behind the wheel. The Auburn name and logo are inlaid across the back in aluminum and black epoxy.
The heel carving repeats the theme with a silver female figure carved into it that represents the hood ornament of the Auburn car.
The back of the headstock is inlaid with an engraved mother of pearl Auburn car sitting on a cascade of abalone strips.
The pickguard and truss rod cover match the ones on the Jazz Moderne and Sophisticated Lady. They were handmade especially for these three guitars.
