The Kunkel Banjo is great for all styles of playing, but for those who specialize in claw hammer and old timey music, I offer the Dark Hollow model. This banjo features a frailing scoop with chamfered edges to accommodate the thumb and down stroking fingers. It has a shorter scale (25.5”) which moves the bridge closer to the center of the head. It is offered in a regular and a Dobson-style heel. There’s a simpler headstock and an unbound rosewood finger board. The tension hoop is radiused and is not veneered, exposing the eleven-layer Baltic birch plywood. A traditional No Knot tailpiece continues the old-timey theme. Being a simpler, old school design, there is no pickup installed to keep its antique vibe. It can be ordered with one if desired. The Dark Hollow is finished in a hand rubbed oil finish to a satin luster..
